Two days ago, actress Penelope Cruz was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and Johnny attended the event in support of his long-time friend. Johnny Depp is setting up his own record label, to be called Unison Music.
The star already has an A&R team scouting the UK for new talent and, according to reports, one was at London’s Monarch earlier this month.
An insider told The Sun: “Johnny has always been passionate about music. He’s taking a really hands-on approach to signing acts. Obviously he can’t get to as many gigs as he would like but he’s got a good team around him and will personally vet any signings that they make.”
The Pirates of the Caribbean star has long been a massive music fan – he played guitar on the 1997 Oasis track ‘Fade In-Out’ and appeared on the soundtrack to his 2003 film ‘Once Upon a Time in Mexico’.
More recently, Depp helped Sheffield band Babybird return to the limelight nearly 14 years after ‘You’re Gorgeous’ charted across the world. The movie star funded studio time for the band to record their latest album, ‘Ex-Maniac’, and also featured on the track ‘Unloveable’ and directed its music video.
“Sure, I find it touching, honestly, but awards are not as important to me as when I meet a 10-year-old kid who says, ‘I love Captain Jack Sparrow.’ That’s real magic for me.”
