Johnny made it to No. 1 on IMDB’s list of the top movie stars of 2008! And he has been ranked as so for five years in a row! Congratulations, Johnny!
Johnny Depp was No. 1 and Christian Bale was No. 2 on IMDB.com’s list of the top movie stars of 2008.
IMDB.com, a subsidiary of Seattle-based Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN), said the rankings were determined by its Starmeter tool that ranks celebrities’ popularity. Depp has ranked No. 1 for five years in a row.
Rounding out the list’s top 10 were Heath Ledger, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Kristen Stewart, Will Smith and Gerard Butler.
“The Starmeter list is a true gauge of what’s hot in pop culture based on actual user interest and visits to a star’s page,” said Keith Simanton, managing editor, IMDB.com, in a statement.

It looks like there will be yet another new project for Johnny!
He’s often called this generation’s finest, and most dynamic, actor. Known for his mastery of eclectic and varied characters — a murdering barber in the twisted musical Sweeney Tood, an idiosyncratic and slightly neurotic confectioner in Willy Wonka and a lovable, drunken Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean, to name a few — Johnny Depp is an actor’s actor, not afraid to push his boundaries and embrace the most difficult of roles.
But now, as reported in the UK Independent, Mr Depp is prepared to undertake what might be his most challenging role yet: an author who hopes to elucidate one of mankind’s great works, Dante’s ‘The Divine Comedy’.
Depp’s production company, Infinitum Nihil, has bought the screen rights to In the Hand of Dante, by Nick Tosches, a 2002 mystery novel which reprises the dramatic afterlife themes and images of ‘The Divine Comedy’ while exploring storylines involving Dante himself, as the 14-th century Italian author works to complete his masterpiece.

Edward Scissorhands, Johnny’s 1993 movie has been recreated into a stage production in the UK. Below is a review.
MATTHEW Bourne, widely hailed as the UK’s most successful director and choreographer, has created a powerful and heart stirring stage production of Edward Scissorhands, given a standing ovation at the Birmingham Hippodrome.
It recreates perfectly the fairytale atmosphere and gothic sensibilities of Hollywood director Tim Burton’s 1990’s original movie starring Johnny Depp, Winona Ryder and Diane West.
After more than seven years in development, it tells the tale purely through the mediums of dance and music, boosted by the hauntingly beautiful film score of Danny Elfman.
Edward Scissorhands, a boy with scissors for hands, is created by a lonely inventor who then dies suddenly, leaving his creation alone in an unfamiliar world.
Taken in by the Boggs family, Edward is introduced to small town suburbia and falls in love before his strange appearance proves too much for the families he meets.
On the way, Edward becomes a local celebrity and opens a salon as his sheaving skills create fantastical new hairstyles and topiary designs.

Johnny Depp is taking his new role as the Mad Hatter literally – he has been caught eating his hat.
The Hollywood star portrays the famous character in director Tim Burton’s new version of Alice in Wonderland, and he has been amusing crew members on set with his strange behaviour. Burton, who was worked with Depp on numerous film projects, including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, says the actor is embracing his latest role.
He says, “Nobody plays oddballs better than Johnny and he’s loving playing this one. He actually ate his hat the other day. No word of a lie he just bit into the brim and chewed.”
I simply can’t wait for this movie to be in cinemas!
