Disney will release Lone Ranger on December 21, 2012, giving the studio a big holiday entry in a crowding field. The film, directed by Gore Verbinski and starring Armie Hammer as the title character and Johnny Depp as Tonto, takes place in 1869. A Texas Ranger, left for dead, is saved by the Comanche Tonto, who gives his new partner the masked identity of Lone Ranger. Justin Haythe, Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio wrote the script and Jerry Bruckheimer is producing. The film begins production later this year.
The holiday corridor of 2012 is getting more competitive. Warner Bros recently set a December 14, 2012 release date for the Peter Jackson-directed The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and on December 21, the Ang Lee-directed Life of Pi opens against Universal’s untitled Judd Apatow film as well as Relativity Media’s Hunter-Killer. Of course, date shifting is allowed.

LONDON — Liam Gallagher is hoping to cast Johnny Depp in the Beatles movie he is making.
The former Oasis star is producing a film about the Fab Four’s company Apple Corps, based on Richard DiLello’s book “The Longest Cocktail Party”.
In an interview with Q magazine, Gallagher he said he would like “Pirates Of The Caribbean” star Depp to take a leading role.
Gallagher, who fronts new band Beady Eye, wants the US actor to play Derek Taylor, the Beatles’ long-time publicist.
Depp became friendly with Liam Gallagher and his brother Noel during the late 1990s, when he was dating model Kate Moss. He contributed to Oasis recording sessions, playing a slide guitar solo on the track Fade In-Out.
Gallagher, 38, told the July edition of Q, out on Wednesday: “Derek Taylor was a dude. He’s up there with Lennon.
“The film script is done. It’s gonna blow people’s minds, man. I’m just waiting to find out when we choose the actors.
“I want Johnny Depp to play Derek Taylor. It’s got Johnny Depp written all over it, man.”
DiLello’s book is an insider’s guide to Apple, examining the company and the band’s demise.
A day after the Russian premiere in Moscow, Johnny was in attendance at the UK premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in London. Photos from the event can be viewed at the gallery, with tons more waiting to be added!
